Jacques Rieur deserted the Russian army in 1908. First he went to
Germany (approximately 6 months) and then he spent 2 years in France. He
arrived in the United States on 5 Nov 1910 [Ship La Savoie from Havre,

231 Germany (?) St]. After attending New York University, he worked at
the Jewish Community Center of Omaha, Nebraska. He became a citizen on
15 June 1914 in Omaha NE [1922 Ellis Island manifest]. He received a
graduate engineering degree at the University at Lincoln, Nebraska, and
spent some time surveying for the railroads. After a while, he went to
Syracuse, New York where he helped organize the Jewish Community Center
there.
In 1922, he, his wife, and son, Nichmud, made a trip to Europe. Their
return via Ellis Island provided the following information:
Ship Berengaria, leaving from Southampton, arriving on 1 Sep 1922. Their
destination was 326 Hart Street, Brooklyn, N. Y.
