Notes:

Sarah Rieur Minkin arrived in the United States in 1913 or 1914. It cost $50 from Antwerp to New York in steerage. She arrived with Gertrude Beldecchi.
Minnie, Charles, and Robert Rieur arrived in the United States around Rosh haShana, 3 October 1920. They came on the Susquehannah. There were so many immigrant ships in the harbor at that time, they were held at sea for several days, and arrived on Ellis Island on Yom Kippur.
Jacques claimed that he rented a rowboat and went out to the Susquehannah in order to get a glimpse of the new arrivals. He held up a sign with the name RIEUR on it and was noticed by Charles and Minnie.
Sarah Rieur and Marcia Glickman, Jacques's sister-in-law, went to Ellis Island. Fortuitously, they met an influential man, and he helped get Charles and Minnie off the boat. They all went to the Glickmans. Subsequently, Charles was sent off to New Haven to live with Zachary, and it was there he entered an American school for the first time.
