Hayah (Chaia), daughter of Israel Rieur, married Ithor (Isar in Yiddish)
Berman. They were childless for ten years. They consulted a Hasidic
Rebbe in some distant town and the Rebbe advised them to get divorced and
after a short period to get married again. They did so and the following
year, Alter was born. They moved to Vilna to give Alter a secular
education, and when Alter was married to a girl from the town of
Swentjohn (Lithuania) the parents moved back to Viazin.
