Notes:

David was of English extraction, but of Irish birth. Before he came to America with his 3 brothers, he lived at Clough Keating, Tipperary, Ireland. Upon their arrival in America they settled at "Old Man's Creek" (or Old Back Creek) in what is now Salem County NJ. They came to America about 1684. In Ireland, the Sheppard's were members of the Baptist Church. They were among the people who organized the First Cohansey Baptist Church in 1690 at Shrewsbury Neck, in the neighborhood of Cohansey NJ. David was a Justice of the Peace and a Judge in the Salem Court in 1710. He was a member of the Fifth Assembly of New Jersey, which set in 1709-1710 at Burlington, NJ.
