James was of English extraction, but of Irish birth. He came to America
with his brothers about 1684. Before that he lived at Clough Keating,
Tipperary, Ireland. He was a Baptist. He settled in "Old Man's Creek"
(or Old Back Creek)in what is now Salem Co. NJ. It is thought he
returned to Ireland and died there while his children were young. A copy
of an old deed made by these children in 1732 is in the file in Trenton,
NJ which was written in Tipperary, Ireland, deeding the land in this
country. There is probably another daughter - besides Esther - who was
born in 1690.
