Jan-1910 - A newspaper clipping (source unknown) reads: "Elaborate
Christmas Display
"For Twenty Four Years Resident Has Added to Outfit
"After twenty-four years of patience and ingenuity, Walter Neiman a well known youth, has perfected one of the most beautiful Christmas displays in this vicinity, and the public of this borough and surrounding suburbs may view the same any evening at the young man's home, Second and DeKalb streets, Bridgeport.
"Each year the display has grown, until this year it is an elaborate concern well worth viewing. The young man has worked upon the stpendous decoration since his early childhood and the results of his efforts may be readily seen when the eyes of those interested gaze upon the magnificent exhibit of clever workmanship.
"The display shows Fairmount Park, well modelled in a miniature form. The lighting system is perfect, trains pass by the entrances, automobiles and wagons of all descriptions are upon the boulevards, fountains hurl water through the air, men traverse the narrow roads, a large water wheel revolves slowly in a wide stream, besides many other attractions of no less interesting nature.
"It required eight weeks working every evening to erect the display and trim a large Christmas tree, which stands beside it. The decoration occupies half of a spacious parlor. To those who are interested in displays of this nature, the young man extends a cordial invitation to visit home any evening in the near future." 1930 Census: Listed are D.H., Laura, and Walter B. The Neiman's owned their home, which was valued at $30,000. They had a radio. Ruth Kolarik (his granddaughter) said that Daniel Neiman his wife, Laura Lancaster's gravestones, were knocked down and disposed of by their son, Walter Neiman. It is assumed that they are buried together with Daniel's brother, Jacob, in the plot that they purchased jointly at Montgomery Cemetery. In 1947, after his mother's death, Walter Neiman married, sold the Bridgeport property, and bought a 200-year-old house in Trappe PA, which he turned into apartments. In 1960, Dorothy Neiman Swanson and Ruth Neiman Kolarik, together with their husbands, bailed Walter out of his marriage by paying Mabel, his wife, a sum of money and taking over the Trappe property. It was sold in 1963. [source: Dorothy Neiman Swanson, letter, 12 April 2003]
