Quote from Ruth's nurse, April 2000, "When I entered the bedroom I was
looking for the patient and then I realized it was your mother sitting in
the chair. She looks so much younger, I didn't think she was medicare
eligible yet either. (She told me the story of the nurse in AMH thinking
she was 50.) Your mother started the visit with the statement that she
did not want to be rude but what was the purpose of the visits, did not
feel she needed it. She told me it makes her feel like the glass is 1/2
empty not 1/2 full when she requires such services. She is determined to
be rid of any interventions that are associated with illness. I
explained that the purpose was to keep a check on her by listening to her
lungs and that we may spot something before it would be evident to her
and can prevent delay in response to it. She did agree to services. It
was a very nice visit. She told me she does get confused sometimes when
she is doing crossword puzzles. She will put a word in the wrong column
and then later realize what she did and correct it."
